Dragonfly Tea FAQs
We’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions here. But if you can’t find the answer you’re looking for then drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll come straight back to you.
Do you use artificial colourings, preservatives or additives?
No. Our entire Dragonfly range is free from artificial flavourings, preservatives and additives and the teas are all GM-free. All our teabags are chlorine-free.
Do all your teas contain caffeine?
The following Dragonfly products are naturally caffeine free: Cape Malay Chai Tea, Cape Rooibos Tea, Mountain Honeybush Tea, Pure Camomile Tea, Pure Peppermint Tea. Please visit the Rooibos & Honeybush and Naturally Caffeine Free Tea sections of our online shop for the teas that are naturally caffeine free. Our black, white and green teas all come from the Camellia sinensis (tea bush) plant which contains caffeine. Caffeine content of tea can vary from season to season, bush to bush, and even leaf to leaf! But as a general guide, white and green teas contain a lot less caffeine than black teas.

Is tea safe to drink during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding?
We suggest speaking to your GP or midwife if you have any concerns about drinking teas or herbal infusions during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
I’ve heard rooibos has lots of antioxidants and is really healthy; is that true?
Rooibos has long been valued for its natural goodness. It is a naturally caffeine free tea so can be enjoyed by the whole family at any time of the day, even at bedtime. A growing body of research suggests rooibos may have quite a broad range of other benefits. We are not able to provide further information on this subject but the official South African Rooibos Council has published a summary of scientific research completed over the period 2009 to 2013 which you can read here.
Are your products organic?
The purity and provenance of our teas is of utmost importance. Our 15 Dragonfly Speciality teas (20 bag packs, individually sealed string & tag sachets) are all organic and are certified by The Organic Food Federation. Our Fairtrade Organic Rooibos in our Dragonfly Rooibos range (40 bag packs, loose tea bags) is also certified organic. Our remaining three Dragonfly Rooibos teas and our six Leaf Teas of Distinction (in the metallic green tins) are not certified organic but pesticides and fertilisers are only used when absolutely necessary - usage is kept to an absolute minimum. Fungicides are not used during cultivation. Every new harvest of tea is sent to an independent laboratory for rigorous testing to determine if the purity levels of our teas exceed (not simply meet) a stringent set of international standards.
Are your products Fairtrade?
Our Eleven O’Clock teas are Rainforest Alliance certified and our Fairtrade Organic Rooibos is certified by the Fairtrade Foundation and we are looking to extend this to the rest of our range. Currently, however, the best quality teas are not necessarily certified Fairtrade. The provenance and purity of our teas is of utmost importance to us and over many decades we have built strong relationships with growers and master tea-makers who help us to access those little-known locations which can offer the most sustainable, desirable, and fairly traded harvests.
I have a nut allergy; can I drink your teas?
Our entire Dragonfly Speciality range (20 bag packs, individually sealed string & tag sachets) and the four teas in our Dragonfly Roobios range (40 bag packs, loose tea bags) are packaged in a factory that does not handle nuts. The six teas in our Leaf Teas of Distinction range (in the metallic green tins) may not be suitable for nut allergy sufferers as they are made in a factory that handles nuts.
Are your products suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
All Dragonfly teas are suitable for vegetarians. Our 15 Dragonfly Speciality teas (20 bag packs, individually sealed string & tag sachets) and the four teas in our Dragonfly Rooibos range (40 bag packs, loose tea bags) are suitable for vegans. The six teas in our Leaf Teas of Distinction range (in the metallic green tins) are packed in an environment that handles milk so we cannot guarantee they are totally milk-free.
Are your products wheat/gluten free?
None of the ingredients in Dragonfly teas contain wheat/gluten. Our 15 Dragonfly Speciality teas (20 bag packs, individually sealed string & tag sachets) and the four teas in our Dragonfly Rooibos range (40 bag packs, loose tea bags) are made in a factory that does not handle wheat or wheat derivatives. The six teas in our Leaf Teas of Distinction range (in the metallic green tins) are packed in a factory that handles wheat/gluten so we cannot guarantee that they are completely gluten free.
What can I recycle?
Our boxes, string and tags are recyclable as paper. Our envelopes (the paper covers around each individual tea bag in the Dragonfly Speciality range) are not currently recyclable but we are working to change this.
What can I compost?
You can put our boxes, string, tags and teabags in your household compost. Our envelopes (the paper covers around each individual tea bag in the Dragonfly Speciality range) are not currently compostable but we are working to change this.
