Dragonfly Tea and Beanstalk

For our 2018 Children's Story Competition, we are proud to be partnering with Beanstalk, the national literacy charity for children.

As part of our drive to inspire creativity and storytelling, this year we will be working with Beanstalk, a fantastic organisation which encourages children to embrace reading and learn about the wonders of words and stories. This year, as part of our new partnership with the charity, Dragonfly will be matching all donations made by our customers to Beanstalk for the duration of  the 2018 children's writing competition.

More about Beanstalk and their wonderful work:

'At Beanstalk we believe that life is better when everyone can read well and express themselves with confidence. Sadly last year, nearly 200,000 children left primary school unable to read to the expected level. That's why Beanstalk recruit, train and support volunteers across England to work in schools with children who have fallen behind with their reading.

We have over 100 staff across the country and over 3,000 volunteers who support 11,000 children every year, but we are determined to achieve even more. That's why by 2020-21 we will be supporting over 30,000 children across England.

Beanstalk reading helpers work with children on a one-to-one basis, giving them consistent support to improve their reading ability increase their overall self-confidence and help give them the vital literacy skills they need to succeed in school and life. With Beanstalk's support the child's approach to reading and learning is often transformed:

  • Of those children reading ‘below’ the expected standard, 42% are now ‘working towards’ the expected standard and 26% have caught up with peers.
  • 98% of schools agreed that their reading helpers helped children to improve their enjoyment of reading
  • 99% of schools agreed that their reading helpers helped children to improve their confidence

In association with Henley Literary Festival, we are proud to partner with Dragonfly Tea on their 2018 Children's Story Competition, inviting children to put their pen to paper and let their imagination take flight, as we continue on our journey looking to inspire all children in the worlds of books and storytelling.'
